DZODZE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
SS PETER AND PAUL PARISH

The Dzodze mission started first as an outstation of Three town(Denu) residential station in 1913 with church services held under trees and sheds by parish priest who visited from neighbouring Noepe in Togo and also from Denu

But not long after, in October 1926, the foundation stone for the present church building was laid on a piece of land provided by one Kassah Zotra of Dzodze Apetepe to prepare the mission for attainment of an autonomy.
Subsequently at Easter of 1929, the mission of Dzodze was separated from that of Three town under its first resident parish priest, Rev. Fr. Rudolph Zijlstra S.M.A
With all his energy directed to developing the parish, Fr. Zijlstra saw to the quick completion of the church building which was commissioned on August 3,1930 by Bishop Augustin Herman of the Keta-Ho diocese.

The expansion of the capacity of the church continued under Father Zijlstra with the construction of residential quarters and dispensary on another piece of land provided by Bakar Amanyo of Dafornyami. This facility housed the staff of the mission including the Metton Sisters who ran little dispensaries that helped the natives, especially in the field of child delivery snake bites and fever. This however prepare the way for the construction of the St. Anthony's Hospital.
Additionally, the Metton Sister did a pioneering work of converting a lot of the indigens to the faith and therefore laid that strong congregational strength for the church.

Since its establishment the church went through a lot of changes and developments, from the establishment of its first church choir in 1929 by Mr. A. K. Younge to the consecration of of the first outdoor Sacred Heart Shrine in Ghana at Tornu, Dzodze on 19th June 1982 by Bishop Francis Lodonu of Keta-Ho Diocese.
