St. Anthony's Hospital
St. Anthony's Hospital is a church owned hospital in the Keta-Akatsi Diocess of the Catholic Church. It can be found in the South-Eastern part of Ghana and was established by Bishop Anthony Konnings in 1960.

The catchment population of the hospital is 260,000.The hospital receives referral cases from all health facilities in the Ketu District and parts of Akatsi, Keta and even Ho Districts. Twenty to thirty percent (20%-30%) of the hospital's clients are from neighbouring Togo.

The bed capacity of the hospital is 160 while the hospital has 173 staff with 3 Medical Officers inclusive. The hospital sees a lot of out-patients

and admissions yearly with for instance the 2006 figures below; A total of 36,680 were seen in the Out Patients Department with 3,449 In-Patients. In order to provide efficient and speedy health delivery to its patients, the hospital collaborates with stakeholders such as the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Ghana Health Services (GHS), the Regional and District Directorates of Health, the office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), and the Department of Health (DOH) of the National Catholic Secretariat (NCS).

In addition to all the general medical cases, the hospital also undertakes Maternal and Child Health educations and also other reproductive related activities and programmes.

These departments are led by some of the competent practitioners in the country. Another strong point of the hospital is its management team made up the following personalities;

To keep the Medical Team abreast with new developments, the hospital has instituted exchange programmes with Medical Practitioners across the globe.

  • Two visits are made every year by Orthopaedic Surgeons.
  • A team of Plastic Surgeons from Holland called InterPlast and also General Surgeons pay regular visits.
  • The hospital also benefits from the visits of German Urologists.

To generally retain the hospital's workforce the hospital has adopted what the officials call, Human Resource Development Strategies, to ensure staff retention and some of the measures are;

  • To provide staff with decent accommodation and in this direction the hospital is undertaking a construction of a 4-flat storey building to house the middle level staff of the hospital.
  • The hospital trains personnel on sponsorship basis.
  • The hospital has also instituted an annual Best Worker Awards to recognise hard working staff.

Lastly, the hospital regularly carries out preventive maintenance work quarterly on plants, equipments and vehicles to prevent decay.
