Meet the People

The people of Dzodze are mostly farmers, they cultivate maize, cassava, groundnut, sweet potatoes and palm plantation etc. They also distill local dry gin (Apeteshin) which is derived from the palm tree. Palm oil is also derived from the palm tree and the palm fronds are used for basket weaving.

The also learn various trades like carpentry, brick laying, kente weaving, tailoring carving among others. The main occupation is growing of palm trees and this is done on individual basis. Those who are noted for palm plantation are Bokor Kumedzro Dzila, Agbonyitor Dzamesi, Bayakpa Agbleke, Donay Borlor and some others.

Oil palm cultivation is done by Madam Janet Hayibor, Christine Agbenyega, Exi Yakanu, Afi Ahiaga among others.

Maize is cultivated on large scale. James Dotse Tessu, Atsu Davor, George Kudzo Hayibor are among the popular cultivators of maize.

Cassava is grown mainly by the following people Robert Atsu Davor, James Dotse Tessu, Dakpui Kugbonu, Joachim Ahiable.

Distilling of the local gin (Akpeteshin) are done by Torgbui Dey III, Amusuvi Bayakpa, Agbonyitor Dzamesi, Mark Kugbonu.

Kente weaving is done by Romeo Dufe, Dotse Denyo, Francis Agbavor.

Vegetable farming is carried along River Kplikpa and it is mostly done by women. Irrigation is done manually. They indulge in okra, green pepper Gboma (green leaf), Ademe (green leaf) as well as some men.

Pineapple and mango are also cultivated by the people of Dzodze for local consumption and export purpose.

Apart from farming, they trade in various goods like maize, gari, cassava, cassava dough, fish, local clothe (Kente), tie & dye and bartique, they also operate bar, some also do the transport business.
